International sea transportation: benefits and features
The main advantage of this type of transportation is the reduction of costs, because the transportation of goods by sea does not depend on the condition of roads and does not require the participation of a large number of specialists involved. Cargo can be transported in large quantities, and this is another advantage of Maritime transport: for the transportation of a similar volume of goods by car or by rail will need much more machinery.

There are sea freight and some disadvantages. Ships move slowly, and it takes much longer to transport cargo from port to port than to transport it by plane. In addition, the movement of ships depends on the weather, and there may be unexpected delays. On the other hand, the low speed of sea transport is compensated by the low cost of this type of cargo transportation and the impressive cargo capacity of ships.

It should be taken into account that most often international sea transportation is ordered by customers whose production facilities and warehouses are located near the port cities. On the territory of Russia, transportation of goods by sea have their own specifics. In winter, the Baltic sea and the port of Murmansk partially freeze, which creates additional difficulties for carriers. Nevertheless, hundreds of tons of various cargoes – metal, timber, industrial goods-are delivered to the country by sea every month.

Sea container transportation from Continent logistic»
Continent logistic company fully controls the process of cargo delivery by sea. Our experts will develop a route, monitor the loading and fastening of containers, conclude a contract with the carrier, which carries out delivery from the port to the destination. The customer needs only to report the cargo and delivery, and indicate the desired delivery terms. Delivery by sea guarantees safety, because the containers in which the goods are transported, and their fasteners are quite stringent requirements.

Partnership with Continent logistic company frees the customer from the need to delve into the nuances of tax and customs legislation of other countries, to enter into contracts with foreign contractors and sign agreements with carriers. Any cargo will be delivered to the port of destination on time and in full safety. If necessary, the customer will always be able to trace the route from the point of departure to the end point of its transportation.

Incoterms (Incoterms) and their features
Incoterms or Incoterms (International commerce terms) - international rules for the unambiguous interpretation of terms in the field of foreign trade, primarily with respect to the place of transfer of responsibility from the seller to the buyer (Franco place). International trade terms are the standard terms of international sales contracts.
The rules were first published in 1936 by the international chamber of Commerce, the first edition is known as "Incoterms-1936". Amendments and additions were later made in 1953, 1967, 1976, 1980, 1990, 2000, 2010 .

EXW (EX Works) + the name of the plant/mine/storage. The seller provides the buyer with the goods directly on its territory. Neither for loading, nor for customs clearance of goods the seller is not responsible. Naturally, under such conditions, the price of the goods is minimal.
Important! The EXW contract may be supplemented by a separate agreement imposing on the seller obligations related to the loading of the goods on the vehicle and its dispatch to the destination specified by the buyer. If the buyer requires the seller to carry out export customs clearance of the goods, it is easier to use the FCA condition.

FCA (Free Carrier) named place of shipment. The seller is obliged to deliver the goods to the carrier designated by the buyer and arrange customs clearance of the goods. The seller is responsible for loading and unloading the goods only if it occurs on its territory.
Important! The carrier under this condition will be considered not only a full-fledged transport company, but also any forwarder. That is, the " carrier "is the one to whom the seller has transferred the goods in agreement with the buyer, even if such" carrier " does not carry out the carriage itself.

FAS (Free Alongside Ship) named port of shipment. The seller is obliged to deliver the goods to the port of shipment and place it near the side of the vessel or port transport barge specified by the buyer. Customs clearance is also the responsibility of the seller (unless otherwise specified in the contract).
Important! This condition is only applicable for Maritime transport.

FOB (Free On Board) named port of shipment. In addition to the delivery of goods to the port and the organization of its customs clearance, the duties of the seller include its loading on the vessel specified by the buyer.
Important! A key point of this condition ("along the side") fixes the transfer of risks from the seller to the buyer at the time of crossing the ship's handrails by the cargo. Since this method of loading is completely inapplicable for some types of cargo and vessels (e.g. Ro-Ro), the FAS or FCA condition should be used in these cases.

CFR (Cost and Freight) + the named port of destination. The seller shall arrange for the delivery of the goods to the port of shipment, its customs clearance and loading on the vessel specified by the buyer, and shall pay for the sea freight.
Important! The condition is used only for sea transportation. Despite the fact that the costs for the delivery of cargo to the port of destination the seller is responsible, risk shall pass to the buyer at the moment of crossing by the cargo ship's rail at port of shipment.

CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight) + the named port of destination. In addition to the delivery of cargo to the vessel specified by the buyer and payment of freight, the seller also bears the costs of customs clearance and insurance of the delivered goods.
Important! CIF conditions are used only for Maritime transport. The seller insures the goods at the minimum rate (110%). The increase in insurance coverage at the seller's expense must be specified in the contract separately, or the buyer must pay for it.

CPT (Carriage Paid to) + the named place of destination. The seller is responsible for the delivery of the goods to the carrier, customs clearance of the goods and their transportation to the destination specified by the buyer.
Important! The risk of loss or damage to the goods lies with the buyer at the time of transfer of the goods by the seller to the carrier. As provided by the FCA, "carrier" is considered, in particular, and the freight forwarder. If the transportation of goods by several carriers is meant, the transfer of risks occurs when the goods are transferred to the first of them.

CIP (Carriage and Insurance Paid) + the named place of destination. The seller pays for the delivery of the goods to the carrier specified by the buyer, its customs clearance, insurance and transportation to the destination.
Important! The seller insures the goods at the minimum rate. "Carrier" is considered, including the freight forwarder. If the transportation of goods by several carriers is meant, the transfer of risks occurs when the goods are transferred to the first of them.

DAT (from the English Delievered ad Terminal) + name of the terminal. It is the seller's responsibility to deliver the goods to the terminal specified by the buyer in the country of arrival. All costs associated with transportation, export-import clearance and other customs duties on the goods also fall on the seller.
Important! This condition also applies to combined transport. The term "terminal" includes any terminal (air, auto, railway), as well as a pier, warehouse, etc.

DAР (Delievered at Point) + name of destination. The seller must deliver the goods ready for unloading from the vehicle to the destination specified by the buyer.
Important! This condition applies, inter alia, to combined transport.

DDP (Delivery Duty Paid ) + the named place of destination. The seller is obliged to deliver the cleared goods to the place specified by the buyer. The seller also bears all costs associated with the payment of duties and other charges in the process of delivery of the goods to the buyer.
Important! If the VAT at customs (among other charges) is paid by a foreign supplier, the Russian buyer-importer will not be able to take this customs VAT deductible.
